Expertise

Seven disciplines, one way of working.

From a single room to a masterplan, every project follows the same five-stage process.

Architecture

New buildings, from first sketch to completion.

We design buildings that are specific to their place, their climate and the people who use them. Our work spans private houses to public institutions, and in every case we remain responsible for the project from the first site visit to the handover of keys.

Interior Architecture

Interiors designed as architecture, not decoration.

We treat the interior as a continuation of the building: proportion, light and material first, objects second. We design joinery, stairs, lighting and fixed furniture, and work with a small group of craftspeople we trust.

Residential Design

Private houses and collective housing.

A house is the most demanding brief in architecture, because it must accommodate a life that will change. Our residential work ranges from single family houses to small apartment buildings, always designed to age well.

Commercial Architecture

Workplaces, retail and hospitality with long lives.

Commercial buildings are often designed for a single tenant and a short horizon. We design for the second and third use: generous floor-to-ceiling heights, robust materials and plans that can be reorganised without demolition.

Cultural Architecture

Galleries, libraries and spaces for gathering.

Cultural buildings carry a public responsibility. We work closely with curators, communities and municipalities, and have won seven of the competitions we have entered since 2016.

Urban Design

Public spaces, masterplans and landscape.

We design the spaces between buildings: squares, streets, parks and the edges where a city meets its landscape. Our approach begins with how people walk, sit and meet, and with the climate they do it in.

Research & Development

Material, climate and construction research.

A part of the studio is dedicated to research: low-carbon concretes, load-bearing stone, passive cooling and the reuse of existing structures. Findings are published and shared with the profession.
